What is love? It’s a million things, at least....

This morning, I witnessed the beautiful intersection of Valentine’s Day with Sakai Intermediate School’s annual food drive, and it had my heart bursting: droves of kids moving awkwardly over snow piles toward the entrance of the school. They juggled musical instruments, sports equipment, valentines, backpacks, but most of all, bags of food. So many kids, so many smiles, so many brown grocery bags, so many cans and boxes and pouches of food—all donated, all to fill the shelves at Helpline House.

Sharing what we have with others is, to my mind, one of the most joyful and powerful expressions of love available to us. What a wonder, to watch our collective community heart in action, beating sure and strong at Sakai this Valentine’s Day.
