Joy of the Day, Day 27: Early Morning

I’m no expert in genetics, but I’m pretty sure I’m hardwired to be a morning person, courtesy of my Dad. Lately I’ve been sleeping in a little more and lingering in bed for quite a bit longer each day, in keeping with the easy rhythms of our family. But today I am an early bird.

My mind is firing and clear, even before coffee. I love the solitude, which is being alone without being lonely—it feels like a gift. The light is different; the sun is kinder and gentler at the start of its slow daily arc up and over the mountains. The leaf blowers (I guess they’re essential), the talking walkers (few as they are), haven’t yet surfaced and the soothing fountain and bird sounds that stay with me all day sound brightest in the morning. And though even as I write this I can feel the sun start to rise higher, shining hotter and hotter on my back, there’s still a steady breeze and the temperature right now is the coolest it will be all day—75 in the shade.

Anything is still possible.

Today, being the early bird is my joy. #joyinplace
