Joy of the Day, Day 8: Hamilton

I wouldn’t say I’m a very patriotic person but I do, almost without exception, root for the underdog. And the story of our country really is, at its foundation, a spectacular underdog story.

The first time I saw Hamilton, I was awestruck (as are most, I imagine). The show is a masterwork, in my opinion, both in terms of its music and of its poetry. But I think what brought me almost immediately to tears as I watched Hamilton for the first time, and really any time I’ve listened to it since, has to do with the spirit of its message: it’s a loud, proud love letter to the undervalued, the overlooked—the underdog. Anyway, I haven’t thought about the show in a while, but am grateful that this jewel appeared in my Facebook feed this morning.

Today, Hamilton is my joy. #joyinplace
